European Accessibility Act – EAA
When the European Accessibility Act (EAA) comes into force in 2025, many companies will change the orientation of their digital offerings. The need to use all online services regardless of their individual and personal abilities will be prescribed and defined by law.

Accessibility is becoming increasingly important due to demographics, increasing self-administration of services by customers, and increasingly diverse societies through language and culture. With the introduction of the EAA, this change is being legally defined for digital services for the first time.

To comply with the European Accessibility Act (EAA), companies and service providers must ensure that their digital offerings are accessible and provide all consumers – both with and without physical disabilities – with the same accessibility requirements to digital offerings.
Here are some steps that companies and service providers can and should take to fulfil the requirements of the EAA Regulation:
- Review of digital offerings:
Companies and service providers should check their websites, mobile apps and other digital services for accessibility to ensure that they meet the requirements of the EU standard EN 301 549.
- Providing alternative text for images:
Companies and service providers should provide alternative text for images to ensure that people with visual impairments can understand the content.
- Reduce the use of different colours:
Companies and service providers should minimise the use of colours to ensure that people with colour vision impairments can understand the content.
- increasing the font size: Companies and service providers should increase the font size to ensure that their digital offerings are also accessible to older people.
- Clear structuring of content:
Companies and service providers should ensure that their digital offerings are clearly structured to facilitate navigation for people with cognitive impairments.
